if that isn't a goocher i don't know what is! all emphasis mine throughout.
celebrate, celebrate - dance to the music~!
of course you know i jest...
what was fdr thinking?
"United Nations Day was established by Presidential Proclamation to commemorate the establishment of the United Nations in 1945.
It is celebrated very generally in all states and American possessions, and by all eighty-one countries, which are members of the United Nations for the purpose of informing the people of the world as to the aims, purposes, and achievements of the UN. The day is part of the United Nations Week, October 20-26.
The name "United Nations" was devised by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was first used in the "Declaration by United Nations" of January 1, 1942, during the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their governments to continue fighting together against the Axis Powers."
now, all the "axis powers" are MEMBERS of the united nations! oh the irony.
now a little lesson in the etiquette (or etiqute as they put it) of the last week of ramadan:
" O people ! A great and blessed month is going to set in on you. Each night of this month is better than a thousand months. God has made fasting obligatory during this month and has ordained Taravih as a supplementary prayer. Any man who performs a good deed during this month of his own free wolition will receive a reward equal to the reward for obligatory deeds performed during other month, he shall receive a reward equal to the reward of seventy obligatory acts during other month ".
i did not edit this one - what's a "wolition" and where may i get one? is it the same place they get wiagra? do they become wiolent if their rewards are few? they don't have the wertibrate to handle this task!
"11. Show utmost tenderness and affection to people in the month of Ramadan. *Provide maximum facilities to your employees and supply their needs with extreme liberality. Deal with members with kindness and generosity."
i'll be back as soon as i compose myself!
...that may be sometime next year at this time...
*somebody please tell me WHO they employ?
where may i find some obscurity?
Dear G_d help u.s. now. thank you ahead of time.
i-i-i'll be okay...

In honor of the United Nations day, i have decided to send a stern letter to my brother that the loud music must stop or else further action will be taken, like another REALLY stern letter!

United Nations Week? or Weak?
...and I never knew G_d gave "extra credit" for woluntary deeds performed during Wamadan. No wonder its' the bloodiest time of year in Bagdad...
it is getting wery wiolent over there, farmer.
do they not know their acts are windictiwe against the non-prophet?

Yea Rob, I think its that fear of being buried in mounds of paperwork that really scares the crap out of them.
I think that they are thinking of slaves.
Warren- Good point! Wonder if we can cite them for deforestation?
Nanc- Coincidence? Weird one!
FJ- Weak is the word!

I can honestly say that I've never heard of U.N. Day.
what was fdr thinking?
He slipped into utopianism. The League of Nations was an utter failure, yet FDR advocated the founding of the U.N.
The last day of the last week of Ramadan. When is the next Rammadammadingdong? Seems as if Ramadan is at a different time every year. Oh, what was I thinking? Muslims follow the phases of the moon, in honor of their moon god, Allah.
I think you've unlocked the Democratic Plan for getting us out of Iraq. May it be as successful as the UN Plan for dealing with Darfur!
aow - i didn't know that october 7 was national frappe day and i had a quadruple latte that day - check it out for yourself:
http://library.thinkquest.org/2886/
oct.htm
and to think i thought this day was national day BETWEEN last day of the last week or ramadan and u.n. day - when in reality it is national mole day!
A day to celebrate Avogadro's accomplishment's has been long in coming. National Mole Day, long may it be celebrated with fatwaback and collared greens, german chocolate cake, and other celeberatory dishes!
When I'm President, the UN Building in New York City will be demolished by artillery fire.
I still consider the action of warning the people inside before the first barrage up for debate.
here-here, farmer!
and i thought it was the red sauce we put on chicken enchiladas!
beamish - i doubt your adversaries would want to even try to debate it and your friends know better...
you should first start a lottery to see just who will push the button!

And apparently, Batman movies..
From the last line of his Wikipedia biography, "Another obscure fact about Avogadro was that he was an avid fan of the Batman movies."
Gotta love that wiki!
Ramadan is for scweey wabbits.
warren? next year on my birthday it's national "take your pants for a walk" day - think i'll sleep in and let the family take mine out!

warren,
The Wiki guys probably confused Amedeo w/Albert Avogadro. Albert was Batman's butler, after all. ;-)
nanc,
Why didn't you tell me that I missed Trafalgar Day? I was really looking forward to commenting on the old addage... England expects every man to do his duty...

happy u.n. balogna day!
Mr. Beamish,
When I'm President, the UN Building in New York City will be demolished by artillery fire.
Mr. Beamish in '08!
Nanc,
I'm all out of bologna. I wonder if there's been a run on it at the grocery store?
I hope Kofi bought some Miracle Whip cause that's what it'll take for anyone to believe in UN bologna.
Ooops, I guess the Whip is slightly out of Kofi's reach, but not something else.
The Hellmann's...
I believe in the UN, i believe they are a bunch of Crackpots that could not negotiate a piece of candy from a baby, i believe the UN is a great place to send someone you are having a feud with, a day of "talking" will just drive them crazy, I believe that the UN (United Nitwits) is the one force that can stop the ghost busters and the ninja turtles, other than that, not so much.
"Happy UN Baloney Day everybody!"
That statement has got to be the most accurate thing I have heard all week..ahem weak!
What about cheese and some mustard?
guess farmer went to have a sandwich...
rob - the u.n. is about as inert as 98% of the ingredients in a bottle of laundry soap. agreed.
hey kell!
happy bulloney day!
rob?
cheese and mustard?
with the bulloney?
FYI...From Bill Federer's "The American Minute":
American Minute with Bill Federer
October 24
Created to prevent future wars, the United Nations, a term coined by Franklin Roosevelt, officially began October 24, 1945.
Since then there have been over 100 million casualties in over 150 wars and armed conflicts: 25 in Latin and South America, 54 in Africa, 13 in Eastern Europe, 52 in Africa, 11 South Asia, 5 Central Asia, 20 Southeast Asia.
Amidst accusations of U.N. Oil for Food Scandal, U.N. Sex Scandal, the 185 member United Nations spends $20 billion annually, though never independently audited.
Make of the above what you will.
Is it U.N. day? Did I miss it?
In honor of the ignominious day, I think I'll threaten to ground my kids about 600 times, and then not, and then pretend that I don't hear them when they're laughing at me.
Then, I'll ask my hubby for $50 to go buy a pizza, only spend $20 of it, and misappropriate the remaining $30.
Sounds like fun to me! HAHAHAHA!
aow - at the turn of this century i heard a statistic which stated that in the last century (20th) there was "all tolled" ONLY TWO WEEKS in the entire century without an armed conflict! astounding!
brooke - you're going to work late into the night getting such a tardy start...give'm a "what for" for me! and then i'll take it back tomorrow...
How about we fry some bologna in honor of the UN?
tmw

he replied, "man, i ain't never been that poor - do you guys need a loan?"
Wait a minute i live in a Manufactured Home!

Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

ah-oh...
Don't look at me. I didn't cut the cheese or spread the mustard.
But in honor of Bizet's birthday, I did bring some spicy habernera sauce...
Shakespeare, L^3
Fair ladies mask'd are roses in their bud;
Dismask'd, their damask sweet commixture shown,
Are angels vailing clouds, or roses blown.
farmer? i was going to profess my love for you right here and now until i saw the last depiction! it's going into reserve...
Bizet, Carmen
L'oiseau que tu croyais surprendre
Battit de l'aile et s'envola;
L'amour est loin, tu peux l'attendre;
Tu ne l'attend plus, il est là!
Tout autour de toi vite, vite,
Il vient, s'en va, puis il revient!
Tu crois le tenir, il t'évite;
Tu crois l'éviter, il te tient
L'amour, l'amour, l'amour, l'amour!
...its' a good thing that Wiki posted the translation at the habernera link.
Pax
oh farmer...
HEY - it's "punk for a day" day!
Why doesn't that surprise me?
And I thought yesterday was National Bologna Day.
I'm glad it went by and didn't hear a peep about it in the msm.
We probably won't celebrate the holiday until all the black helicopters have landed... ;-)
The only worthy contribution by the UN that I can think of was the UN coalition against North Korea. They successfully freed the South and kept it that way.
However, it was US military power that made it happen.
Is there anything else?
Fern- Does obfustication count?
tmw
yes fern, you're excused now. thank you.
kuhnkat must be down, he missed a
HA! on his second post!
just a test.
Kuhnkat,
They never could get Venezuelan oil to taste as good as American wheat.
