tomorrow is u.n. day AND yesterday was the last day of the last week of ramadan

if that isn't a goocher i don't know what is! all emphasis mine throughout.

celebrate, celebrate - dance to the music~!

of course you know i jest...

what was fdr thinking?

"United Nations Day was established by Presidential Proclamation to commemorate the establishment of the United Nations in 1945.

It is celebrated very generally in all states and American possessions, and by all eighty-one countries, which are members of the United Nations for the purpose of informing the people of the world as to the aims, purposes, and achievements of the UN. The day is part of the United Nations Week, October 20-26.

The name "United Nations" was devised by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was first used in the "Declaration by United Nations" of January 1, 1942, during the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their governments to continue fighting together against the Axis Powers."

now, all the "axis powers" are MEMBERS of the united nations! oh the irony.

now a little lesson in the etiquette (or etiqute as they put it) of the last week of ramadan:

" O people ! A great and blessed month is going to set in on you. Each night of this month is better than a thousand months. God has made fasting obligatory during this month and has ordained Taravih as a supplementary prayer. Any man who performs a good deed during this month of his own free wolition will receive a reward equal to the reward for obligatory deeds performed during other month, he shall receive a reward equal to the reward of seventy obligatory acts during other month ".

i did not edit this one - what's a "wolition" and where may i get one? is it the same place they get wiagra? do they become wiolent if their rewards are few? they don't have the wertibrate to handle this task!

"11. Show utmost tenderness and affection to people in the month of Ramadan. *Provide maximum facilities to your employees and supply their needs with extreme liberality. Deal with members with kindness and generosity."

i'll be back as soon as i compose myself!

...that may be sometime next year at this time...

*somebody please tell me WHO they employ?

where may i find some obscurity?

Dear G_d help u.s. now. thank you ahead of time.

i-i-i'll be okay...

Yea Rob, I think its that fear of being buried in mounds of paperwork that really scares the crap out of them.

I think that they are thinking of slaves.
Warren- Good point! Wonder if we can cite them for deforestation?
Nanc- Coincidence? Weird one!

I can honestly say that I've never heard of U.N. Day.

what was fdr thinking?

He slipped into utopianism. The League of Nations was an utter failure, yet FDR advocated the founding of the U.N.

The last day of the last week of Ramadan. When is the next Rammadammadingdong? Seems as if Ramadan is at a different time every year. Oh, what was I thinking? Muslims follow the phases of the moon, in honor of their moon god, Allah.

I think you've unlocked the Democratic Plan for getting us out of Iraq. May it be as successful as the UN Plan for dealing with Darfur!

I still consider the action of warning the people inside before the first barrage up for debate.

beamish - i doubt your adversaries would want to even try to debate it and your friends know better...

And apparently, Batman movies..

From the last line of his Wikipedia biography, "Another obscure fact about Avogadro was that he was an avid fan of the Batman movies."

Gotta love that wiki!

FYI...From Bill Federer's "The American Minute":

American Minute with Bill Federer
October 24

Created to prevent future wars, the United Nations, a term coined by Franklin Roosevelt, officially began October 24, 1945.
Since then there have been over 100 million casualties in over 150 wars and armed conflicts: 25 in Latin and South America, 54 in Africa, 13 in Eastern Europe, 52 in Africa, 11 South Asia, 5 Central Asia, 20 Southeast Asia.
Amidst accusations of U.N. Oil for Food Scandal, U.N. Sex Scandal, the 185 member United Nations spends $20 billion annually, though never independently audited.

Make of the above what you will.

Is it U.N. day? Did I miss it?

In honor of the ignominious day, I think I'll threaten to ground my kids about 600 times, and then not, and then pretend that I don't hear them when they're laughing at me.

Then, I'll ask my hubby for $50 to go buy a pizza, only spend $20 of it, and misappropriate the remaining $30.

Sounds like fun to me! HAHAHAHA!

nanc said...

aow - at the turn of this century i heard a statistic which stated that in the last century (20th) there was "all tolled" ONLY TWO WEEKS in the entire century without an armed conflict! astounding!

L'oiseau que tu croyais surprendre
Battit de l'aile et s'envola;

The only worthy contribution by the UN that I can think of was the UN coalition against North Korea. They successfully freed the South and kept it that way.

However, it was US military power that made it happen.

Is there anything else?
