Homeland Insecurity

This mess has been pending for some time. Many have felt that the unsecred border problem was not only letting in Mexican and Central American illegals, BUT was an open invitation to terrorists too..
And look where we are, our concerns are verified, but notice the downplay of the ones that were never caught?
When are our elected officials going to do what the elected want? "Nevermore, quoth the Raven, Nevermore." We have been signed, sealed and delivered to our enemies...emphasis mine.

Iraqi terrorists caught along Mexico border

American intelligence chief confirms 'people are alive' as a result of capture

President Bush's top intelligence aide has confirmed that Iraqi terrorists have been captured coming into the United States from Mexico.
The confirmation comes from National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell, who talked about the situation in an interview with the El Paso Times recently.
"Coming up through the Mexican border is a path," McConnell said. "Now, are they doing it in great numbers? No, because we're finding them and we're identifying them and we've got watch lists and we're keeping them at bay."
How? With a fence? With added border security? With support for our border guards? Or with SPP, NAU, NAFTA Superhighway? Sure, Wilbur, I've got some swamp land to go with that!
But, he said, "There are numerous situations where people are alive today because we caught them (terrorists)."
Intelligence officials say the numbers and details of such situations are classified, but McConnell pointed as an example to Mahmoud Youssef Kourani, who entered the United States through Tijuana, Mexico, in 2001, and later pleaded guilty to helping raise money for Hezbollah, which has been designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization.
The goal, McConnell said, is for terrorists to gain admittance to the United States, and then produce "mass casualties."
"You've got committed leadership. You've got a place to train. They've got trainers, and they've got recruits," McConnell told the newspaper. "The key now is getting recruits in. So if your key is getting recruits in, how would you do that?"
McConnell's office did reveal some numbers, during fiscal 2006, there were 14 Iraqi nationals caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally, while so far in 2007, that number is 16.
How much are you willing to bet that those are the stupid ones?
"Now some we caught, some we didn't," McConnell told the newspaper. "The ones that get in – what are they going to do? They're going to write home. So it's not rocket science; word will move around."
Derrrrr...
Also revealed was that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted 60 Iraqis crossing the nation's southwestern border in 2006 who were seeking asylum in the U.S., while that number so far in 2007 is 178.
The Times report said a U.S. intelligence analyst said there's been evidence that human smugglers, or coyotes, are telling Iraqis to ask for amnesty if they are caught.
The typical scenario is this: Forged documents are used to get an Iraqi into a country in South or Central America. Since travel from country to country is allowed without vises in many locations there, they work their way north to the U.S. border.
McConnell told the newspaper the numbers are classified, but there have been a relatively small number of people with known links to terrorist groups who have been caught at that point.
I want to know how many are suspected, does anyone REALLY care, AND WHERE IS OUR PROMISED FENCE? Hmmm?
Kourani, for example, apparently paid a Mexican Consulate official in Lebanon $3,000 for a Mexican visa and then was smuggled into the United States in the trunk of a car.
Mexico is corrupt people, CORRUPT, without morals, without care except getting more, more, more! And we are supposed to be SUCH good friends? With friends like that...
He was sentenced to more than four years in prison after admitting he helped raise funds for Hezbollah.
When the newspaper asked U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, about the situation, he said, "It's not something we would talk about."
"We have had intelligence about al-Qaida identifying Latin America as a potential or prospective area where they could come through, but frankly, I'm surprised that the director would make definitive statements like that because, even if it were true, you wouldn't want to publicize that," Reyes told the Times.
Judges 10
[6] And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.
[7] And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.
[8] And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
[9] Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.[10] And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.
[11] And the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
[12] The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.
[13] Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.
[14] Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
If G*D did this to HIS covenant people, why should we expect any different?

McConnell was senior vice president with Booz Allen Hamilton, focusing on intelligence and national security, before being appointed to his current post by Bush in February.
He previously was the director of the National Security Agency and served as a member of the Director of Central Intelligence senior leadership team before then.

Like Nanc, I wonder how many haven't been reported too. I'll bet there are a bunch of them! They can only tell us who they catch, they can't tell us who they haven't caught. *sigh*

The fact that our borders are still weak (and that's putting it mildly - perhaps I should say "non existant") is stupid. We are being overrun and it seems our government doesn't care. I'm with you... I'm becoming very skeptical of the vast majority of politicians too. I've always been skeptical of the media.

Blessings. Good post!

It takes about 1-2 years for Bush's political appointees to become corrupted by the system. Look at Chertoff's early statements (when he was pushing for deportation) and look at him now. McConnel will undergo a similar shift. There's something rotten in Washington.

Second what WB said.

Sadly, Bush will no doubt point to this and say, "See, we aren't letting terrorists in... We've got border security!"

Oh, I could just scream!

I don't have time to read all the links, but I did pull up that last one. Excerpt:

In what is described as an effort to strengthen national security, the federal government wants to eliminate permanent resident cards without an expiration date.

The cards didn't have an expiration date??? Good grief!

And look at the numbers:

The proposed change would affect about 750,000 legal immigrants who received cards from 1979 to 1989. Subsequently, the government made the cards valid for 10 years.

And then comes the whining:

Rene Franco, director of the Immigration and Citizenship Program for Catholic Social Services of Tucson,...said he is concerned that for some permanent residents, obtaining a replacement card could result in deportation.

"People are going to be fingerprinted and if there are crimes, the person will be put in deportation proceedings," he said. "It's happened in the past."

Deportation of permanent residents is possible under a 1996 immigration law that expanded the types of crimes for which someone can lose legal status. Immigrants can become deportable years after committing certain crimes, even if they have paid fines or served time.

"My warning would be, before applying for a new green card or citizenship, talk to an agency that helps immigrants or an immigration lawyer," Franco added.

Oh, that's the ticket, all right. Get an open-borders lawyer involved. **snerk**

Angel-This was my way to get others to join me in a primal scream session. I'm developing a simmering anger over this abomination.
AoW-Illegal is illegal, what is soooooo hard for people to grasp about 'it is breaking the law'?
I was reading a commentary on CWN about the pastor's helping the government during martial law...he spoke of 'Lex Rex', the Law is King, written during the 'divine right of kings' thinking in Europe. The writer of 'Lex Rex' was pointing out that human law and government were trumped always by G*D's Law. And if human government tried to usurp G*D's Law, it was not only permissable, but Scriptural to oppose it.
We are rapidly reaching the point of our government usurping G*D's Law. Are we willing to '...put it to the touch, to win or lose it all' for the sake of G*D's Law?

This makes me sick to my stomach! We need to go ahead and organize the minutemen along the border and do the damn job of the inept border patrol. What does GW want? Another terror attack?

So you're assuming that just because they were Iraqis trying to cross into the US, they are automatically terrorists? Maybe they were Christian or Jewish Iraqis, or Mandean Sabean Iraqis. Or maybe they were just non-terrorist Muslims. Trying to cross into this country because things in Iraq kind of suck, and the US government isn't taking any refugees.

The overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants to this country are not terrorists. True fact. The overwhelming majority of Muslims and Iraqis are not terrorists, Also true fact.

Kourani, for example, apparently paid a Mexican Consulate official in Lebanon $3,000 for a Mexican visa and then was smuggled into the United States in the trunk of a car.

If you think only terrorists do this, you're sh*t out of luck. Outside of our civilized developped world, you can't get anywhere without bribes.

What is fascinating is how we deal with this fact in international project finance deals, but that's another story...
