I think we should try the San Diego Chicken.

^ LOL!

And whom would be the recipient of this "auspicious" honor? (I have my suspicions.)

That would, pretty much, be a no-work avatar.

nanc said...

beak - warren thinks i'm contrary - can you believe that? he's wrong of course...

Warren said...

Are too!

:^)

nanc said...

am not!

dayam - you got me!

Among the different plains tribes, were warrior societies, referred to on the whole, as Contrarys.

The were considered holy clowns and listened to in council. (Which was probably quite troubling because they tended to say the opposite of what they meant).

They seemed to be a blend of shaman, warrior and clown whose clownish actions were actually farce, parody and satire.

The badge on the right side of the headdress contains a Celtic Cross.

An Ojibwah friend, once mistook that same cross for the symbol of Great Spirit; the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was also the totem of the Contrarys.

Nanc, more correctly, I think you are a holy warrior, contrary in nature.

It isn't a representation of a Contrary, its my representation of you as a Contrary

:^)

The Contrary is perfect for Nanc and has all the appropriate symbols. I was familiar with the Contrary. Where did I learn about that? Little Big Man? Centennial?

Giant fern holding a flag? Works for me. What does FN think?

nanc said...

warren - you don't have to justify the contrary to me - i just wonder if you're in cahoots with my husband...

of course it was little big man - the indian who rode backwards on his horse!

fern is about to find out, aow - i've alerted him and he'll probably change his blogsite, his e-mail, his job, his town...

nanc said...

p.s. - if the truth be known - fern will be jealous and want MY contrary! ha!

Warren I got the better one what about the chicken hawk from Looney Tunes.

nanc said...

welllllll - can i be a hawkish contrary chicken????? darn your hide, beak!

Rosemary Welch said...

Very cool! I like them both. :)

Warren said...

Beak, I'd forgotten about the looney toon chickenhawk! LOL

Unfortunately, Warner Bros, is overly protective of their property rights.

BTW, Anum paid me a visit in the preceding post.

Warren said...

Rosemary, Thank you.

I need to get over to your blog and post a comment, I've been reading some of the material on the German American blog carnival.

Very colorful!

Now, someone explain the Freedom Now / Fern thing.

J.M. Seals said...

Nice, you should just start doing this full time. At least homeless bloggers can soon have a face.

Take it away, Nanc!

One word of warning; Mr Beamish, I'm of the opinion that there are some things we are better off not knowing.
;^)

FB, Think of it as cybersurgery for the unpixelated.

The verification word was qpbjqu, they hate dyslexics

nanc said...

well, where should i start? oh yeah, the beginning and to make a short story long, it was when we became mbc orphans.

nanc said...

warren - what kind of bird is that in the crevasse of my headdress? and if you say cuckoo, that's it for you!

Warren said...

The headdress is actually a coyote pups skin but it was too plain so I added some color to balance the picture and accentuate the face in the smaller avatar picture.

In complicated pictures, avatars look totally different than the full sized picture. The trick is to capture the essential elements even though detail is lost.

Its obvious, to me what it is, but that's a trick of my mind because I know what its suspossed to be. I altered the picture slightly so the face of the coyote is more visible and lightened the dark curl on top of its head.

How does that look?

Rosemary Welch said...

Dear Warren,
Thank you for your kind words. The next carnival, I expect to see something written by you! lol.

It is good to talk, even if we disagree. Otherwise, how can we resolve our misunderstandings or differences? If indeed they can be resolved. I just happen to believe they can...for now. :)

nanc said...

well, of course i could see the canine - i thought it was a wolf! we have a wolf/shepherd hybrid mix and she is the greatest pet.

Warren said...

Nanc, I'm not really sure what you see. That's one of the reasons I post these on blogspot, (for feedback).

I use a totally different operating system and web browser. There are differences in monitors, resolution and field size.

My question is; is the "bird" gone?

It could be a wolf pup. Not much difference.

We have a chow, coyote mix. We call her Foxy. She showed up, half dead, on our doorstep when she was a pup. We know she is chow mixed because half of her tongue is black. She seldom barks, occasionally she will howl, (eerily).

nanc said...

no, the bird is still there, but i like it - it's at the top in the middle of the dog's forehead. am i hallucinating?

Warren said...

No, its the difference in our computer setups.

I see what you're talking about now. Actually its a darker patch of fur on critters head. The "beak" is pointed toward the right side of your monitor.

If you like it, we'll leave it there.

nanc said...

i'm still thinking...

it's a gorgeous day here and we're continuing our gardening today - everyone's involved. i like that about a family.

What kind of travesty of justice do I spy here?

You know I would be curious myself as to the origins of the nickname Fern.

I just accepted it from Nanc without question, because she is well...Nanc. When Beak called me Fern I practically threatened his life and he tried to have me assassinated in response (I might be exaggerating a bit).

nanc said...

eeeheeeeeheeee!!! yeehaw - the fern is finally home from his date!
