Iran Watch

The smaller image is how the larger image would show as an Avatar in your posts.

Its a Griffin.

Head wings and foreparts of an eagle and hindquarters of a lion.

Its an ancient symbol recognized in many cultures.

In Christianity it represents the strength and wisdom of God.

This one started life as a brown, faux wood, pencil holder. You won't find this anywhere on the net unless someone steals it. I usually use some type of image as a start to save time.

Whatca think? Yes, no, maybe so, changes, something else, ideas? Don't take it if you don't like it, I can find it a home.

I believe this is the size it would show on your blog although you can probably change the template to make it larger.

Nanc,
You said you had some ideas, cough'em up!

:^)

If you start a blog, don't worry about trolls, they're easy enough to get rid of. You just delete their posts.

I'm pretty lenient about letting anyone post but I make no pretense of the freedom of speech thing.

Its my blog and if I decide to delete a post, tough cookies!

Funny thing is that I have only had to delete spam. JB only posted once and its still here. I just threatened to delete any other post he made.

You know I'll help you out.

i cannot tell my ideas out in the open - they are so grand, beak would probably steal them!

as far as the griffin goes - my kids would say, "that's so SPANKEN'" - yeah, warren - that's the new word or was it "SCHWEEEET"

not too long ago we passed a classic car and i said, "check out the bitchen chevy!" everyone thought i was nutz and my kids said to clean up my mouth. they are the word police.

Warren said...

Spanken... I guess I'll have to quit saying phat!

Its hard to keep up, Nanc.

LOL

nanc said...

yes it is, warren. it's best not to try. stick with what works and you'll never go wrong. that's why i still say "bitchen". some things are timeless. have you seen what's going on at aow? a regular slugfest.

nanc said...

p.s. i don't cough.

I thought we were going to use the San Diego Chicken as an avatar.

Next week we should do a Mr Beamish roast on Friday.

Warren said...

Nanc, I don't try to keep up. I have enough trouble with English.

I had a collage kid, (now a teacher), tell me that he had a fat (phat) ride, I asked him what the hell he was talking about. I was dumbfounded when he told me it was his 68 Mustang.

I've always wondered what caused his horse to swell up.

Warren said...

Beak, What does Beamish think of this? Does roast Beamism go well with potatoes and carrots?

nanc said...

i'd be willing to bet the ranch beamish would love the attention leading up to his nomination!

beak - i'm from san diego - what on earth is a san diego chicken? pigeon perhaps?

nanc said...

now, i really must get some rest. i've been looking forward to sleeping in for four or five years now...snore...

Unknown said...

bitchin is my word too. it's a lot more popular than you think. they even used it in an episode of 'aqua teen hunger force'.

nanc said...

that's bitchen, drummaster! and spanken too!

beakerkin said...

Warren can you post a picture of the infamous San Diego Chicken.

nanc said...

nanc said...

i must say the more i see the griffin, the more i like it - our son is a myth geek and loves griffins and the phoenix and other such things. he's sure they will be on the other side.

some cool art, who did the work?

Warren said...

That would be me with some help from the Gimp and PSP7, (visual media programs).

I like the griffin! The design is beautiful, and I love the colors.

We have a griffin on our mailbox--a family connection as my uncle's nickname was "Griff."

In Christianity it represents the strength and wisdom of God.

I didn't know that. Or if I once did, I had forgotten. Comes with age, you know.

Always On Watch said...

Pretty soon the lot of us are going to have great avatars. Warren rocks!

Warren said...

Iran Watch, I'll put up a tutorial right now....
Uhh, never mind.

LOL

nanc said...

aow said, "I didn't know that. Or if I once did, I had forgotten. Comes with age, you know."

nanc said, "age comes with its privileges, and that's why i choose to forget to remember many things..."

i like that griffin! i think...

Warren said...

Do I detect dissension in the ranks or.. or... I forget.

nanc said...

i always CAPITALIZE when dissenting...if i remember correctly...or was that incorrectly? it was one of those!

we're about to be hit with some weather - the Weathermaker is angry again - but we are blessed and He has never failed us.

Warren said...

The Griffin can have two meanings,

Because it possesses the parts of great predators, it can be symbolic of Satan and evil. But this comes from a faction of the fundamentalists which believe that anything that hints at the magical is inspired by Satan and that imagination in and of itself is evil.

In heraldry it represents a soldier who is so courageous that he will dare all danger and death, rather than become captive.

In Celtic and Anglo-Saxon tradition it symbolizes vigilance, vengeance and wisdom.

Because of the griffin's two fold nature, it can also symbolize Jesus and his two-fold nature: both fully God and fully man. It also represents the guardian of forbidden knowledge. Power, (the lion), and acuity, (the eagle).

In "The Divine Comedy", Dante, uses the Griffin as the symbol of Christ.

In mythology, nothing could stop a Griffin traveling in a straight line, and so I've heard that many a Crusader saw the representation of a griffin and called to mind, Luke 4:28-30 - But when they heard this, everyone in the synagogue was furiously angry. They sprang to their feet and drove him right out of the town, taking him to the brow of the hill on which it was built, intending to hurl him down bodily. But he walked straight through the whole crowd and went on his way.

The Griffin is so rich in symbolism that I could cover pages with references.

nanc said...

you are a wealth of information and although i read "divine comedy" - it was many years ago. i see the parallels.

once feeling invincible i walked through a wall of buzzing honey bees to keep my babies from running out the back door of our home. if they'd started swatting at them it would have been all over but the crying. the wall was about four inches thick and about six feet tall and wide - as i walked through them it felt like nothing i've ever felt before or since. amazing. not one sting.

nanc said...

p.s. i'm not comparing myself to a griffin or to Christ - but i know He must have been with me so i give Him the glory.

Warren said...

I have to confess, I reasearched the Griffin before I chose it for its symbolism. Some of it I knew and some I didn't.

I didn't remember the"Divine Comedy" reference, (actually there were two in Dante's tome).

I understood what you meant, Nanc.

nanc said...

i have sent you an important e-mail.

Warren,
Go to Amazon and search "Dare to Repair Your Car."

I'm the daughter of a mechanic and married to a mechanic. Love it!

Warren said...

AOW, it looks like you get around!

LOL

Warren said...

Iran Watch,

I'm really glad you like it.

I don't know if you noticed but I added you to my blog roll.

:^)

I still need to get Nanc fixed up with an Avatar.

Looking for images of Contrary's, (a noun in this case).

nanc said...

i think fern (freedomnow) needs an avatar worse than i - oh, the imagination is working overtime on this one...

Warren said...

OK Nanc, wutca got on mind?

I surfed over to Verns house and saw your post. (avatar)

Since you asked and he didn't seem particularly interested. I'll work it up and give it to you, then you can offer it to him.

I still need to fix you up and I have an idea, We'll see if it works out.

nanc said...

fern's a devo freak and thinks he wrote a song they stole from him - you'd have to go waaaay back in the archives to find the story - anyway that's how i named him "fern" and he was always putting those little devo hats on everything and he's patriotic so i thought perhaps a fern with a devo hat waving an american flag would be the piece de resistance! you work it out and i'll drag him over - he hates surprises!

nanc said...

p.s. - fern is my beak, no wait a second, that would be madzionist - well, it's a toss up anyway! they're my babies.

Warren said...

Working!

nanc said...

good morning warren! it's a beauty day here in the ozarks - i thought i heard your wheels turning!

any new kitten recipes? say that would call for 8-9 of them?

Warren said...

Ahh Nanc, I'd love to be in the Ozarks!

I love the hilly country and mountains. I suspect that so many Cherokee kind of disappeared into that region because it reminded them of their Smoky Mountain homes.

George, my great grandfather, spent a lot of time there when he was logging.

Here in the lowlands, its cool and clear today. We seem to get your weather a few hours later.

I've just completed my tasks and I'm going to post the results as soon as I'm done with this reply.

I think I can come up with a recipe for kitten noodle surprise. (The surprise is that you don't tell anyone what the ingredients are until after they've eaten.)

LOL

Warren said...

Think, Kitten Alfredo!

nanc said...

we like alfredo at nanchouse! with fresh grated parmesan...red wine...and a good movie afterward...

p.s. - you and your family should take a weekend and come and visit sometime! we have some of the comforts of home - lol! otherwise it's much like camping.

Warren said...

For the movie, I'd suggest "Cats and Dogs."

;^)

nanc said...

i was thinking "homeward bound" - cats rule and dogs drool!

Warren said...

" Americans like using cartoons I noticed. Is this because of your fear of Islam?"

Anum, or whatever you call yourself.

I don't believe you are what you say you are.

This blog is my home and you are here as a guest. How Islamic is it for you to insult my hospitality?

Also realize that you are guilty of theft. The crescent and star on green background, is hosted at worldatlas.com. Unless you have permission, you are stealing bandwidth, (resources), from world atlas.com.

Perhaps you have read where I have called "Ducky" a common thief for stealing bandwidth.

Now to answer your question.

The symbolism and subtleness of intellectual thought are inaccessible to the uncultured mind.

nanc said...

warren - fyi - happen on over to american crusader for more in the continuing saga...

beakerkin said...

Anum

Now you are claiming to be upset over cartoons. The Griffin is a symbol that predates Islam.

I see that you are making the rounds . Mr Beamish is upset that you haven't linked him.
