update: porte cochere incident

as you all may or may not know, my refrigerator was all but destroyed in the aforementioned bloodbath. it overfroze in the freezer and the refrigerator section would barely work at all.

as we could not really afford to go purchase a new refrigerator at the time, we kept many things in ice chests for over two months. that's alotta ice. actually - any new refrigerator money we had went to repairing the truck and window.

we do not like to benefit from the misfortune of others, but it seems someone forgot or just refused to pay their storage bill at a local storage so the owners had a HUGE tag sale here awhile back. sitting there in all its glory was a clean sears kenmore, side-by-side, frost-free, with an icemaker, refrigerator/freezer.

now here's the part you won't believe:

TWENTY-FIVE BUCKS!

pay your storage bill stupid...

I'm glad you have a new fridge. Living out of a cooler is no fun.

I assume, that nancpop learned how to back in safely, this time? Swiping the wallet does seem to shorten the learning curve! Glad you're back to as normal as nancfamily can get!

actually tmw, he spent the better portion of a day beforehand building a sturdy ramp (cost approximately $40.00) and backed up a fair distance from the gate and unloaded it from there. needless to say, he was sweatin' before the ordeal of moving it even began. his male pride was at stake - but only in his own mind. i've never doubted his maleness...rrrrrrrrrrrraer!

Nonsense, Kuhnkat. Cold drinks cause your body's metabolism to accelerate to raise the body temperature around your internal organs to compensate. This is like exercising lightly. I know after a couple cases of beer I feel like I can take on the world.

Nanc,

I would email you a popsicle if I could.

nanc said...

beamish?

jolly rancher green apple?

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Sure. Or at least a Dole Strawberry Fruit & Juice bar.

But, all this time, freezerless, especially after this hot summer? You deserve a tub of ice cream.

They're got these really neat beef and bean burrito popsicles in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. They're really tasty, but man they're hard on your teeth.

Do they give warranty in case there's something wrong with the fridge?

nanc said...

i like the chimichanga and french fry popsicles - especially with lousyanna hot sauce and ketchup! yummy!

nanc said...

that's the beauty of it linkster - it works PERFECTLY!

no warranty on a used fridge, which reminds me of ANOTHER "oh boo" fridge moment - but some other time.

Years ago I worked for a Moving and Storage Company. When a customer became 6 months delinguent on paying their storage bill, the law said we could have a public auction. But then the day of the auction, the delinquent customer would show up and bid on their own stuff and sometimes get it back cheaper than if they'd paid their bill! It was perfectly legal. Go figure!

ms. green - i knew someone years ago who made his living buying out storages in california - that's ALL he did by the age of 40 - he was quite well-off by selling his wares. these ventures allowed him part ownership of the kickboxer dennis alexi at one time. storage is big business.

Nanc,

I have friends that clean out storage sites, estate sales, etc. and make a killin' on E-Bay.

It's like cyberspace Sanford and Son.

nanc said...

do you mean to tell me we're in the wrong business?

elmers brother said...

Well at least now you can make ice when you need it.

nanc said...

oh eyes, now there you go tryin' to purtify my tarnished reputation! now stop...

yes indeed, elbro - nothing like a working fridge~!

now, for our deal of the day - we got up early and went out to breakfast and junking - there are two things we look for at sales that we cannot live without - cardinal 4 fishing reels and old or antique blocks (the kind you hang from your barn or garage ceilings - we hang ours from our front porch at home).

today - a cardinal 4 was found - SEVEN BUCKS! fishermen will know what i'm talkin' about!

Just think what I could have done with all that stuff in my back yard. Or what your friends could have done. ;)

What a killer deal!!! You most definitely have God looking out for you.

I actually posted something again to my blog. I am on a roll.

Brooke said...

Wow! Whatta deal! Congrats on the Kenmore!

Mrs. Green, couldn't you kick that bum out, rather than let him continually take advantage of you, or does the law in your area prevent the worthless from getting what they have coming? >:)

$70 for ICE? Gads! Time for powdered milk and dry goods!

gee,I wonder how folk in olden days got by...without estate sales, I mean.

nanc said...

why, bensosilly - in the old days we used to just pillage and plunder and take what wasn't ours! we didn't need no stinkin' estate sales!

I'm typing on a computer I scavenged out of a dumpster. I generally strive for "low impact acquisition" of consumer electronics, appliances, and computers.

20 years ago I traded a box of floppy disks and $10 for the microwave I still use to this day.

The only thing consumer item I'm really willing to spend any money on is tools. Good tools are a joy, cheap junk a frustration.

nanc: this may come as a total surprise but I'd like to put what I'd like to think was a misunderstanding between us behind us. I made cheap accussations at you.

I now realize it's kuhnkat who makes those HAHAHA MORON comments. I also respect you for the very civil comment you made on Freedomnow's site and the fact that you haven't gone overboard with your comments. BTW: I have the greatest respect for Warren, even if it's not mutual, me having insulted beaker.

Anyhow, I will delete that post I put up in the hopes that you and I will reconcile. I realize I've offended several of your friends and hope that that will not stand in the way of us getting along.

Be'tikva,in hope, Greg.

nanc said...

thank you, greg. you really need to know when and where to choose your battles. enough said.

I see that Greg has apologized. Though I don't know all the particulars, seeing a heartfelt admission of a mistake is refreshing and a nice sight before I head for bed.

Nanc:

How do I find information on those kinds of sales? I don't want to capitalize on someone else's misery, but if their things are going to be sold anyway, it might as well be me who buys some of them.

Are they advertised in local papers?
