FINALLY, PBS IS GIVING TAXPAYERS THEIR DUE!

looks like must-see television at pbs-KCET on january 8, 10:00 p.m. (unknown what time zone) in the form of a documentary entitled "Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: The Resurgence".

perhaps pbs has received a message loud and clear - people have been tired of their tax dollars going to a left-wing media outlet which is, btw, called "public broadcasting station" for a reason.

you may have to check your local listings to see if this program is available in your area.

i've given the public broadcasting station a hard time in the past - mostly because it is a viewer sponsored outlet AND the government endows them with quite a large sum of money also.

now, to me - and correct me if i'm wrong - but, wouldn't that be the same as GIVING a welfare mother with one child an EXTRA four hundred and some odd dollars a month besides what she gets from the government?

how do we know it's not satire?

Likely the {good]} influence of Warren Bell at PBS.

nanc said...

if you haven't watched them lately - their programs are now sponsored by some very big names who get at good thirty or more second dedication before the program begins. shameless.

elbro - i know. when i didn't see red green or monty python on the menu as guest stars...i just knew...

perhaps pbs will turn around in the future and make the move to unbiased. if they don't - the government should NOT continue endowing them - our government needs NO tax write-offs!

Here's the blurb from the PSB site:

Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: The Resurgence
Monday, January 8, 2007

10 - 11:00 pm

Sixty years after the Holocaust, many parts of the world are experiencing a dramatic resurgence of anti-Semitism. This documentary explores the roots of anti-Semitism and examines how and why it continues to flourish today. (CC, Stereo)

I'll post the info at IBA and elsewhere.

thanks, aow - it's short notice but perhaps a program worth watching.

Interestingly they seem to be ignoring the source of the sewage the far left itself. The hard and simple fact is that Communist always were and always will be anti-semitic. Jews that orient themselves with Commies are the modern Capos of our age.

now on to NPR eh?

I was just going to mention NPR...

I used to listen to NPR...in my younger less experienced days. That was a very short-lived interest....for obvious reasons.

Waaaiiit a minute... You mean my tax dollars are going to fund something that should be commercial free, and it has commercials anyway?

Heh.

I'll watch it, and I hope not to be disappointed.

Obob said...

I am looking foward to it, I doubt it'll mention any good names of current groups or individuals

Gayle said...

Walt and I will watch it, Nanc. I've heard a lot about it and my curiosity is aroused. I haven't watched PBS in ages and sure hope I won't be disappointed again.

Blessings!

nanc said...

the program is on again next sunday in some areas.

I believe it is an important program, because there is a lot of denial about such things.

I believe they solicit extra funds because broadcasting is expensive, but for all I know they could be wasting money - I do not know enough about the industry.

Warren said...

I watched it and I didn't like it.

They potrayed "Palestine" as a state before 1948 and that's a load of crap!

nanc said...

then perhaps it is with good reason it wasn't on in my area!

pbs ALWAYS has an agenda. that pists me off, warren.

was there any new or enlightening information you gleaned from it that you could share in a post?

Nanc said:
"was there any new or enlightening information you gleaned from it that you could share in a post?"

Not really.

IMO, it was all the things that weren't said and giving ignorant people some information but not enough information. It wasn't so much that they portrayed Jews in a bad light as they just ignored why the Israelis must act the way they do.

Almost every interview featured a person that referred to the West Bank and Gaza as "occupied" land ignoring the fact that the land was taken by right of conquest as a direct result of Arab aggression. There is no legal or moral reason for Israel to give that land back to the Arabs. Especially since each time they have given some of it back it has resulted in increased aggression from the Arabs.

There was no mention of the Arab community or Arab Israelis inside Israel.

There was mention of the Grand Muffti of Jerusalem and his Nazi activities, but no mention that Arafat was his favorite nephew.

Although they mention the overblown UN estimate of 700,000 displaced "Palestinians", no mention was made of the 650,000 Jews forced to flee Arab countries at the same time.

And on....

nanc said...

so pbs is still up to their same old tricks? rope people into something with a catchy title, only to throw some propaganda at us?

someone put a thermometer in me because i'm DONE with pbs!

sneaky bastitches!

I propped my eyelids open with toothpicks so as to watch this broadcast. In addition to the aspects which Warren mentioned was the idea that the Muslim world adopted anti-Semitism in imitation of the West's anti-Semitism. And of course, there was some talking head blabbing about how the Koran doesn't have anything anti-Semitic in it. Puhleeze!

Perhaps PBS was attempting to counter Obsesssion and what Glenn Beck aired some weeks ago. I noticed much of the same footage.

Because the show last night was a PBS production, it will make its way into the public libraries and into classrooms.

thank you, jack.

so, nanc, what is your idea on Republicus??

guess i need to do a "taxpayers have been ripped off AGAIN by pbs" post.

plucky - i could care less if julie and celine are bloated! i've yet to find a canvas with enough compassion, warmth and emotion to keep me warm. get a life!

actually, i take that back - a couple of years ago, our son made a 36"x36" frame and stretched a piece of unbleached muslin over it and painted a very large blue betta on it in honor of my fish "gill" who had passed away. it does have a prominent place in our bedroom with a night light behind it. it IS priceless.

go wet your drawers somewhere else~!

Ah, the good old taxpayer rope-a-dope. PBS is good at doing that, especially around pledge time. I wish that someone would cut loose PBS once and for all from the government dole. If the oh-so-cultured leftists love PBS so much, they can fund it from their own pocketbooks and leave mine out of it.

Kuhnkat,

I always say if it doesn't deliver mail or warheads accurately, the federal government has no business being involved with it.

Always On Watch said...

KuhnKat,
As far as PBS as a Publicly supported entity, I hope none of you actually contribute to this organisation...

Are you kidding? Those mails go straight into the round file.

Years ago, prior to her death in 1981, my grandmother, who lived at the same address as we, used to donate to PBS. Therefore, I constantly get mails asking for support. You'd think that the greenies at PBS would notice that I never donate and would stop killing trees.

"taught to read by puppets on public television" isn't just a snazzy tagline. Sesame Street had me reading before I started pre-school.

Of course, this was before Sesame Street became PC. Now Cookie Monster eats health food, Bert and Ernie share a bed, and everyone's gotten into Big Bird's ergot-tainted bird seed so they all see Snuffaluffagus too.

PBS has some good shows now and then. Keeping up appearances and the young ones are two favorites. They also show now and then some monty python.

Gayle said...

Walt and I watched it. I haven't read all the comments here, Nanc, but I did read Warren's and a few others, along with a couple of yours. Mr. Ducky has a mind? Who knew?

I agree with your assessment and with Warrens. I was disappointed because I guess I expected far too much. I don't know why with PBS being what PBS is!

Anonymous said...

Steve-The best things on PBS are the British comedys, they certainly have a slightly off-track humor! "Keeping Up Appearances" is very funny, "Good Neighbors" was also a good one! Some of the mysteries are good too.
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

from Diana West's commentary on PBS's show:

It only took PBS one hour to uncover the causes of anti-Semitism, now in an alarming heyday. In "Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: The Resurgence," narrated by Judy Woodruff, PBS offered the answer: The reason for Jew-hatred, now widely promulgated among Muslim populations, is, well ... Jews! Israel! Even Christianity!...

[...]

...The notion that Christians introduced Muslims to Anti-Semitism may well be the conventional wisdom -- indeed, it may even be that nonagenarian Lewis is the source of that conventional wisdom -- but just as surely as Anti-Semitism historically existed in Christianity, it also historically existed in Islam. And I can actually footnote that statement because, quite by chance, the same week the documentary aired, I happened to read the first chapter of a forthcoming book called "The Legacy of Islamic Anti-Semitism" by Andrew G. Bostom, author of "The Legacy of Jihad."

Bostom examines the origins of Anti-Semitism in the Koran (such as in 2:61, which decrees an eternal curse of humiliation and wretchedness on Jews, repeated in 3:112), in the canonical commentaries on the Koran, and in the historical record. And it all begins practically 1,000 years before, say, Queen Victoria made herself an empress. The question is, does Anti-Semitism's origin in Islam, whether Christian or Islamic, become a chicken-egg question for scholars, or does it actually matter?

It matters a great deal, and here's why. The conventional wisdom, as expressed on PBS, does two things. It blames Christianity and the West for introducing Anti-Semitism to a practically Edenic Islamic world, and it minimizes Islam's non-original sin of partaking of it. Indeed, this same conventional wisdom suggests that Anti-Semitism is the natural, if unfortunate, response of "unempowered" Muslims to contemporary political events beyond their control -- namely, the essentially Christian/Western-sponsored establishment of the modern state of Israel....

nanc said...

thanks for sending me that article - the irony is killing people - literally!

Did they will examine the root cause dating back to the founding of the Jews by Abraham and GOD.(?)
And how it relates to the two brothers Ishmael and Isaac.(?)

I read the views expressed here and see no references to the founding of the Jews and how it relates to Islam.

Though the article AOW submitted, does touch on the Quran.
The Arabs view Jews as a brother gone astray.

And then what of the Jealousy that the Jews are 'Gods Chosen People'. (?)

Good insights warren.

take care.

PBS isn't all bad. NOVA is one of their best shows that is shown on a regular basis.
I'll keep my eyes out for their take on anti-Semitism.

nanc said...

sorry all - some comments do not show in my mail - i haven't abandoned this post.

daniel - yes, one only need to read the bible to see that ishmael (islam) is a wild ass of a man, jealous to the bone over his brother.

this also falls into line with replacement theology (google or clusty that). people who claim to be christians are also beginning to follow this errant theology.

hey, a.c.! as long as there are people with their OWN ideas, there will be anti-semitism - it is the oldest hate known to man.

hello warren - where you is?

Sometimes when the weather changes drastically, I turn into a bear and everytime I set down, I go into hibernation. :^)

Honestly, I slept almost all day Sunday and woke up at 2AM, (just in time to do some chores) I fell asleep last night just after supper and tonight, I fell asleep again but just woke up.

It rained all weekend, got cold last night and spit snow all day long. My car doors were frozen shut this morning.

I'm fine but I should have put on the woolies this morning!

i actually think about going outside in the below zero weather to fetch my paper in nancpop's skivvies!

HA! gotcha!

Warren said...

If I went outside in my skivies, nutty Ann from across the street would call the cops. She watches the house like a hawk!

She reminds me of an old joke:

A woman calls the cops and says that the next door neighbor is flashing her. They come out to investigate and ask her where he was when he flashed her. "In his house with his window open, every morning", she replied. "We'll have to catch him in the act before we can arrest him", said the cop. She replied, "Be here at 6 AM tomorrow morning and I'll show you".

Six AM, the cop shows up and she invites him in and tells him to follow her upstairs. He follows her up and she leads him to a bathroom with a small window at eye level, "He'll be doing it right now", she said. The cop looked and said, "I don't see anything".

She said, "You'll have to stand on the edge of the bathtub and look down!"
