Ahmadinejad, Ayatollahs, and the Apocalypse

"I have a concern: The West is not taking Iran's Ahmadinejad seriously enough. The West, including Washington, does not know that Islam is as excited--if not more excited--about the return of their "messiah" as some Christians are about ours. Iran is apocalypticaly apoplectic. Official Iranian radio has completed broadcasting a lengthy series on the imminent appearance of their messianic figure who will defeat Islam's enemies and impose Islamic Shiite rule over the entire world.

"Be joyous my heart, miracles of the Messiah will soon be here," reads a poem used to conclude the first broadcast. "The scent of breaths of the One we know comes near. Grieve not or sorrow . . . a savior will come, it is clear."

After the coming of the 12th imam, or Mahdi, "liberal democratic civilization" will be found only in history museums, stated the program. So much for the Islamic world wanting the democracy we keep offering them.

At times the statements seem to jump out of the book of Revelation. One TV program stated, "In short, when he reappears, peace, justice, and security will overcome oppression and deceit and one global government, the most perfect ever, will be established." The Mahdi will appear suddenly in Mecca. The Shiites are told that no one can know the day or hour of the Islamic messiah's return. Sound familiar?

It gets more intense. In a greeting to the world's Christians for this new year, Iranian President Ahmadinejad said he expects both Jesus and the Mahdi to return and "wipe away repression."

While some of this sounds bizarre, see it for its seriousness. Ahmadinejad's mystical preoccupation with the coming of the Mahdi is raising concerns that a nuclear-armed Republic of Iran could easily trigger the kind of global conflagration he envisions. The Iranian President sees his main mission to "pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi."...

there is also a petition to the ununited nations (for all the good it will do) at aish if you'd like to stand up to this nutjob, along with a two-plus minute video - well worth your time.

As most of you know its been a trying week for me.

I've been shot at when I was unarmed, had a straight razor held against my throat and had my life threatened by a mob that couldn't quite work up enough nerve to do anything as long as I was armed with a pocket knife.

But I've never felt as scared or helpless as when my wife looked me in the eyes and the only thing she could say was "please help me".

The Verdict is still out on whether it was a stroke or a reaction to an anti-nausea drug but they are leaning toward a drug reaction. That's fine with me, it will be a lot easier to make sure she never has another dose of that medication that to go through some form of surgery or therapy for an organic problem.

We are home and she seems back to normal.

I wish to thank you all for your well wishes, prayers and support.

i never realized how tiring this leader business could be - a nap after every earthshattering decision - i wasn't getting a thing done!

everyone questioning my every motive, backing me into a corner proved too much - EVEN FOR ME!

therefore, i appoint THE MERRY WIDOW (former secretary to the inferior) as our new leader until warren returns to assume his duties in a capacity most worthy of "The Community".

thank goodness i did get the longrange name change in before my retirement. you people are brutal, brutal i tell you...now i must have another nap...

in the event tmw cannot fulfill her obligations here, always will attend to her duties. after that, the leader chain will be broken and we'll be taking applications for serious leaders.

As personal matters have caused me to absent myself from my leadership duties, and I have no desire to see "The Community" suffer due to this absence. I hereby designate Nanc of Longrange and Curtains as the temporary head of "The Community". All decisions shall be deferred to her for answers and arbitration as necessary. I ask that all members of "The Community" consult her on all matters that need the decisions of higher authority.

As soon as possible I will return and resume my duties. Thank you for your cooperation during this time of uncertainty.

"oh boo" moment #2007.90

for those of you er...um...fortunate - yeah, fortunate - enough to have two or more teens in the home at the same exact times, this is for you. for those of you who don't, you may wish to reconsider having children. and, for those of you with small children in your home, G-d be with you.

at the moment, i'm relishing the thought of peace and quiet for the next eight hours as a war was started at the bus stop this morning, and the remainder of the war will resume at 4:00 p.m.

our kids are really great - separately - and most of the time are one another's staunchest ally - heaven forbid another would pick on them. they are each other's worst enemy at others. this concept is lost on us at mine and nancpop's ages as we get along spectacularly and have tried to set harmonious examples. although we're not perfect and they have seen a few heated moments between us, not enough to warrant their behaviour towards each other on occasion. this morning was one of THOSE occasions.

while sitting at the bus stop this morning, making small talk, i said to evan, "i'm going to make you an appointment at the beauty shop to......." and nancson interrupted, "what are you doing, taking her in for an estimate?"

...oh boo...

fourteen is an awkward age for a girl - nothing is quite right in their world. bad hair, crooked (or so they think) teeth, weight (even though built like barbie should be), a blemish, friend problems, and the list goes on and on.

i know this little girl and she IS NOT going to let this drop...oh, no she won't and it WILL get ugly. jesse, of course, will forget all about it and be on to his next slam, but evan will be storing up all day.

oh, how i remember being a young girl with a brother...

Saudi Statements

Prices fell in early trading after Saudi Arabia's Oil Minister, Ali al-Naimi, said his country has 3 million daily barrels of spare capacity and will push ahead with projects to expand output. Oil futures plunged yesterday after al-Naimi said he saw no need for an emergency OPEC meeting to consider further cuts in output.

"The Saudis are saying that they don't want to be the swing producer," said Bill O'Grady, director of fundamental futures research at A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. in St. Louis. "The Saudis have made substantial cuts, unlike a lot of the other OPEC members. Oil in a $40 to $50 range suits the Saudis much better than oil at $70."

You may be asking what this means.

Think about it in this light:
Iran exports about 2.5 million barrels of oil daily.

Iran has threatened to cut off export oil production if The US attacks or does anything to "undermine" Iran.

Iran has, essentially, no other export.

The Iranians have a big economic problem and need to keep oil prices high to fill the gaps in their economy.

The Saudis worry about loosing their power in the Middle East to Iran and its radical Shiite mullahs and aren't exactly thrilled with the idea of a nuclear Iran.

FINALLY, PBS IS GIVING TAXPAYERS THEIR DUE!

looks like must-see television at pbs-KCET on january 8, 10:00 p.m. (unknown what time zone) in the form of a documentary entitled "Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: The Resurgence".

perhaps pbs has received a message loud and clear - people have been tired of their tax dollars going to a left-wing media outlet which is, btw, called "public broadcasting station" for a reason.

you may have to check your local listings to see if this program is available in your area.

i've given the public broadcasting station a hard time in the past - mostly because it is a viewer sponsored outlet AND the government endows them with quite a large sum of money also.

now, to me - and correct me if i'm wrong - but, wouldn't that be the same as GIVING a welfare mother with one child an EXTRA four hundred and some odd dollars a month besides what she gets from the government?
